Literature Text

Now hear my tale and listen well my young,
For now I tell of our great origin;
Sprung forth from earth and sea and sky and myth
To live and breath beneath the starry night.

Some say that after He had made the Nine
He split the light and dark in two firm parts
and called them Night and Day and they were good,
For with these things the years could now be seen

Yet in His heart He knew that there was more
And in His Song he added notes and bars
And words came forth that made the fowl of sky,
the fish of sea and thus was the fifth day

Still more there was yet to be sung with love
For on the morrow things were made that walk
Upon the land with foot and leg and lung
And last He made and blessed the righteous Man

Here now we reach the day of rest and learn
Of something that has not been heard of much
For on that day when God did rest His Voice
His Mind was turning over in deep thought

So with the light of the eighth day on rise
The Lord did make up His Almighty Mind
There were to be some changes made to some
And with a clearing of His throat He Sang

There in that dawning light four animals
Were taken from their daily route and brought
Before the Lord upon a shiny cart
And were combined to make the Platypus

With life so new it waddled over ground
To swim in water as it was wont to do
Some felt it was a joke of God, but no,
It's sting would weave a very different tale

So with this thing that He had made so strange
Our Lord did feel that He had modified
Enough for now yet as He turned away
A rain cloud formed beneath His walking feet

It is not often when a thing like this
Occurs inside the Kingdom of our Lord
But when He slipped, a single note of Song
Did slip out from His holy mouth and rang

And Down on earth a thing did now occur
That rent the platypus from tail to bill
And two were made where only one had stood
But now was seen that something was askew

Upon the head of one there was a horn
So proud and straight it stood in great relief
Of it's already stale and mundane looks;
And so was the Great Platycorn first made.
Canto II of The Platiad. An Epic poem I am writing in cahoots with ~Tweede-Kans

Canto I can be found in her gallery here [link]

This was fun to write, and I actually did semi-research for it. By that I mean I read the first and second chapters of Genesis (King James version), and the article on platypuses from Wikipedia :P

There is a line about four animals, which is in reference to this picture [link] just because I can.

Stay tuned for Canto III in ~Tweede-Kans 's gallery!
